Green Leaf Benchlets
Wooden pallets are a building block for tactical urbanism. These low-cost and reusable, but often wasted, materials can serve a diversity of purposes that help make the city a little bit better for the people who call it home. Metropolitan Collective received a City of Vancouver Greenest City grant, coordinated by the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, to build a series of “benchlets” – benches with planter boxes on each side. The benchlets are made of 90% reused pallets and can be designed to fit spaces of varying sizes. Metropolitan Collective’s benchlets have been deployed at Car Free Day on Main Street, at community gardens along the Arbutus Corridor and in Village Vancouver locations. In Vancouver? Keep an eye for new benchlets in your neighbourhood!
