Trencin: Europe’s Healthy City
With a holistic, people-first approach; Trencin: Europe’s Healthy City maximized Trencin’s strengths while preparing for its future. By harnessing the vibrant energy of the city’s redevelopment and public engagement initiatives, while celebrating its rich history, the plan integrated urban elements not always considered together, including economics, education, culture, mobility and a rich natural environment, to create dynamic opportunities for current residents and coming generations.
Trencin: Europe’s Healthy City recognized that healthy people need high quality public spaces, green areas and recreational facilities, as well as quality walking and biking opportunities. It also built on the fact that they need access to healthy food, inspiring educations and good jobs. Smooth mobility for all forms of transport was achieved by promoting the healthiest and least space-consuming transport modes. By prioritizing pedestrian mobility first, cyclists and other human powered mobility second, the plan ensured that more people have viable alternatives to the private car. This was seen to contribute to cleaner air, safer streets and a more people-friendly city.
